Spheres of Deception

SOME FACTS BEHIND THIS NOVEL:
The America-based National Security Agency (NSA) is multi-billion-dollar funded and operates worldwide. A significant proportion of the NSA’s activities have a negative impact on entirely innocent individuals and their families.
During 2008 it became clear that Britain’s GCHQ in Cheltenham was to receive an additional $19 billion “investment” from the British Government. The purpose was to enable this establishment to develop software which would mean it could tap into every phone call, every E-mail message and every web site visited —potentially by any individual in the UK. By early-October 2008 the first $1.6 billion had already been committed. In a few years the much-criticised UK ID system is also due to become active.
The well known Mossad, Israel's security agency, is also highly active and without any doubt all the national and international agencies remain constantly in touch.
SOME QUOTES from characters in the book:
“Just look at this one.” Victor Peres reacted excitedly to the security briefing message on his screen. He had made his daily ‘click site’ visit to the Ruth Smith file…..
Then Gerald made the following extraordinary and frightening statement: “I’ll bet none of our people, including our most senior professors, have even the slightest inkling about the extent to which their activities and day-to-day conversations are being monitored and analysed internationally.”
“Your second question Jack – the one concerning my personal vulnerability – is easier to answer, but doesn’t really bear thinking about too much. The fact is that both Ruth and I….
“Excuse my saying…” – one white-haired lady asked Ruth – “but are you planning an absolutely huge dinner party for which you are doing all the cooking?!”
A fast-moving and scary ‘security apparatus’ psychological thriller, Spheres of Deception is Terry Edwards’ first novel.
